BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

Spring has sprung and as I ride through Covington Woods I see a lot of our neighbors are getting their yards ready for beautiful flowers and blooming shrubs. There are still a lot of residents who haven't gotten into the swing of things. A beautiful neighborhood makes a place where people want to live. It helps the sellers sell and the buyers want to look and buy.

April is our first month for signs to be put in the yards. We will put the signs out at the first of the month and pick them up at the end of the month. There are four bright spots and one yard of the month. Let’s make Covington Woods one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Sugar Land. Congratulations to the winners for April 2012. CITY ORDINANCE REGARDING NOISY ANIMALS

City of Sugar Land Code of Ordinances, Article II Animal Control, Section 3-40.

Unreasonably noisy animals, prohibits the keeping of unreasonably noisy animals inside the city limits and subjects the owner or keeper of such animals to a fine up to $200 per noisy occurrence. An unreasonably noisy animal is defined as an animal that is allowed to bark, growl, howl, whine or make any other sound loud and long enough to unreasonably disturb the peace of other people on the same, adjoining or nearby property.

If you are presently being disturbed by noisy animals in the vicinity of your residence and have had little success in remedying the situation, you may follow the procedures established in the Ordinance for filing a complaint with Sugar Land’s Municipal Court.

  • The procedures are as follows:
  • The animal must have unreasonably disturbed your peace on more than one occasion.
  • You must send a letter to the owner or keeper of the animal by certified mail, return receipt requested, indicating that the animal has unreasonably disturbed your peace on more than one occasion.
  • Once you have gotten the return receipt back and the noise has not stopped, take it and a copy of your letter that you sent to the Sugar Land Municipal Court located at 1200 Highway 6 South to file your complaint.
  • Once you have filed the complaint, you may be required to testify in court regarding the animal’s activities. If you do not wish to testify, do not file a complaint. If you fail to appear in court when summoned, the
  • complaint will be dismissed.
  • If you have any questions in this regard, please call Municipal Courts at 281-275-2560 for assistance.
